Where do you go on a Sunday Night in Los Angeles when you want a great meal that is a short walking distance from LA Live. There a few but on Sunday's some are closed. But if you look real hard across from Staples you will find Rivera. Rivera is as it states Modern Latin Cuisine architected by John Revera Sedlar. Chef Sedlar has integrated is logo which looks like a Mayan R into every aspect of his restaurant including the tables and chairs.
You walk in and you get the feel of a low ceiling and the warmth that goes with that. There are digital photos and drawings on the wall of Latin American locations, Spanish History and people which change every few minutes. Lets get to the food there are menus from several Latin locations and it lends itself as a tapas selection. We started with the Post Colombian Gazpacho made of heirloom tomatoes it had a good hint of chile heat quite possibly the best Gazpacho either of us had tasted. We then tried the Barbacoa which is the Lamb served in a traditional Latin way again with a little heat. We then went with the Flan de Elote which was a corn and black quinoa custard with squash blossom sauce, all i can say is that it was great. We followed that up with the Short Rib Tamals translation real great tamales with a hint of guajillo sauce (Chile) that are tasty and light. We wrapped it up with the Piquillos Rellanos that were stuffed with Chorizo, Golden Raisins and Goat Cheese. For Desert you have to try their Hielo y Fuego or translated Poblano Chile Ice Cream with a Port reduction sauce. Overall the food was fun and great, the service was also very good.
