Final Destination Aspen

We started the last leg of our Vacation in Aspen. We drove from Boulder to Aspen via Independence Pass, if you have never had the opportunity to do this drive it is a must unless you do not like heights or lots of turns;-)) We finally got to Aspen and checked into the Sky Hotel http://www.theskyhotel.com/ I am a big Kimpton Hotel fan so we checked it out. Like all Kimpton's it was a great location right next to the Little Nell and the Gondolas.

It was a quiet weekend in Aspen due to the Emmy's and Back to School. So the people watching was restricted to locals and a few vacationers like us. Fortunately for us they were featuring a Barbecue Block Party http://www.bigaspenbbq.org/ so there was no lack of food. Aspen has a lot of good restaurants and everybody has a different opinion of what is the best. We went with our Concierge Andre's opinion and selected Ellina and The Wild Fig. For Breakfast we went with Peaches and Poppycocks. Peaches by far was the best pick http://www.peachscornercafe.com/ This was their Poached Eggs, on top of apple smoked bacon and topped with arugula. This was a great Breakfast. The Barbecue event was featuring 7 booths each booth had a specialty they were serving. The featured cook was Mike Mills BBQ Hall of Famer I am a BBQ junkee and I tried Mike Mill's Baby Backs just OK, Kelly Callaghan's Kansas City Pork Spareribs were perfectly cooked and our favorite were Jim'n Nicks Pulled Pork Tacos http://www.jimnnicks.com/. I topped the trip off with a Fly Fishing outing organized by my wife. You can see how unbelievable the weather was. While you are in Aspen enjoy the following the Little Nell Bar, Hiking in Ashcroft, People Watching, the Saturday Farmers Market (Stay away from the Habanero Pasta) to name a few.
