Be My Valentine
My wife is quite the romantic she always makes sure that on certain special occasions like Valentines Day that we find a great place to enjoy dinner together. This year this picked Kitchen 1540 at the L'Auberge Hotel in Del Mar http://www.laubergedelmar.com/kitchen1540/. We had been here before several years back and I remembered we had a great meal so I was anxious to go again. Since it was Valentines Day Chef Paul McCabe and his team prepared a creative and fun Price Fixed Menu called Yours and Mine. From the time we parked the car to the time we were seated we were treated like celebrities. The decor of the restaurant is open and not noisy 2 of my favorite qualities. Since it was Valentine's day it was definitely date night the restaurant was full but you would have never noticed it with the great service we recieved. We both started with a different take on oysters in the half shell my wife's was accompanied by Melon and mine was flavored with Wasabi a great way to start Valentines Day;-). The next course was Scallops, my wife had the Bay Scallops in a broth served with Uni. I had a Diver Scallop in a very light broth, the Scallop was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The next course the proteins were different my wife's was Duck Confit with a Poached Farm Egg, mine was Pork Belly on a bed of Polenta. Both unbelievable. For the entree.... that's right there is more my wife was served pork tenderloin with mash and I had the Beef Short Ribs. To finish it off the presented a shared desert which was a decomposed Chocolate Sundae with home made marshmallow, with wisps of chocolate and Pistachio sauces. This was a lot of great food at one sitting, we plan on going back a lot sooner this time.
