Blue Cheese Souffle with Asian Pear and Arugula Salad |
We live 2 miles from
Market Restaurant and we have not been there for three years. It is
Restaurant Week in San Diego and since Market Restaurant was the only 2013 James Beard Semi Finalist in San Diego we gave it a try. We got there early and the restaurant was very busy but to our delight they sat us right away. When we sat down and looked at the Menu we were very excited on the variety and creativity of the dishes. We lucked out with our Server Janine who was the best server we have had in a long time. Janine knew everything, why the wine is paired, what the ingredients were, everything about the restaurant. It seemed that everyone that came to the table was prepared to answer questions. Market is in it's 7th year, it's
Chef/Owner Carl Schroeder has a very impressive resume and all my friends constantly give it a thumbs up.

Kabocha Squash Soup Delish |
The menu is very creative and for once we ordered different starters and entrees so I was able to sample all four dishes. We were offered an
Amuse-bouche of Poached Prawns with Sweet Chili Sauce sprinkled with Panko and Micro Cilantro. My Wife started with the Blue Cheese Souffle and Asian Pear accompanied with Arugula Salad with Spicy Roasted Pepinos, Pomegranate Molasses and Pear Fig Chutney. It was savory, sweet and overall a great combo. I had the
Organic Kabocha Squash Soup with Cranberry Meatballs topped with shaved Fuji Apple, Spiced Pistachio, Kale and
Calvados. I love Soup and I loved this Soup it was sweet it was spicy the Meatballs and the Squash added texture. So Far so Good!

Red Snapper and Scallop |
To the Entrees, I had the Miso Glazed Black Cod and if you have been reading TCT you would know I am on a Black Cod kick and this did not disappoint, The Black Cod was served with Gingered Roast Brussels Spouts,
Edamame, Pea Shoots and Five Spice Hot and Sour Broth. #1 it was Healthy, #2 it was cooked perfectly #3 the flavors were complex and awesome. My wife had the Spiced Local Red Snapper with a seared Day boat Scallop accompanied with a Chardonnay Braised Artichoke Ravioli, Savoy Spinach and Smoked Potato Puree. This was another perfectly prepared dish. As an experiment I ordered their Signature Short Rib as a side dish and although it is quite good it did not stand up to the other items on this chef's creative menu.

Market Bar It tastes Good Too!! |
The meal was not over it came with a mandatory ;-) dessert since we both love Chocolate we ordered the Market Bar which is a Chocolate Mousse Cake, Caramel Popcorn with Banana, Peanut Crunch and Vanilla Malt Ice Cream. The dessert was great but almost put me over the edge of popping a button.
Overall Market is outstanding I plan on going their again soon and our Server Janine was wonderful.
